Vocabulary Exercise – 1

1. Backbite – बैकबाइट - चुगली करना / पीठे पीछे निंदा करना

1. वो चुगली करता रहता है, इसीलिए मैं उससे बात करने से बचता हूँ।

He keeps backbiting, that’s why I avoid talking to him.

2. हमें पीठ पीछे निंदा नहीं करनी चाहिए, क्योंकि यह हमारी नकारात्मकता को प्रदर्शित करता है।

We shouldn’t backbite, as it exhibits our negativity.

2. Heredity - हेरीडिटी - वंशज / परंपरागत गुण / आनुवांशिकता

1. रोहित की लम्बाई लगभग छै फुट है और उसके बाल भूरे हैं, इसका पूरा श्रेय उसके पिता को जाता है जिनसे उसे ये परंपरागत गुण मिले हैं ।

Rohit is around six feet tall, and his hair is brown, all credit goes to his father from which he has got these traits as a part of heredity.

2. भविष्य या सफलता, हमारे वंशगतता (आनुवांशिकता) पे निर्भर नहीं करती बल्कि इस पर करती है कि हम कितनी मेहनत करते हैं।

Our future or success doesn’t depend on our heredity; instead, it relies on how much we work hard.

3. Inequity - इनिक्विटी - असमानता / एक जैसा न होना

1. भारत और अमेरिका में सबसे बड़ी असमानता यह है कि भारत में लोगों में शिक्षा का अभाव है।

The most significant inequity between India and the United States is that there is a lack of awareness regarding education.

2. पैसा और ज्ञान ने अमीर और गरीब के बीच एक बहुत बड़ी असामनता खड़ी कर दी है।

Money and knowledge have created a significant inequity between the rich and the poor.

4. Magnificent (adj.) - मैग्निफिसेंट - ज़बरदस्त / विशाल

1. धोनी ने कई बार दबाव में बहुत ही ज़बरदस्त पारी खेल कर भारत को जिताया है।

Dhoni had won India a number of matches by playing magnificent knocks in pressure situations.

2. ताज महल को देख कर, यह विश्वास करना मुश्किल है कि इतनी ज़बरदस्त इमारत भी बनायीं जा सकती है।

After seeing the Taj Mahal, it is hard to believe that even such a magnificent monument could be made.

5. Paragon (n.) - पेरागॉन - नमूना / आदर्श

1. चंडीगढ़ जैसा शहर पूरे देश के सारे शहरों के लिए एक आदर्श है, इतना साफ़ - स्वच्छ और इतने कम प्रदूषण वाला शहर अद्भुत है।

A city like Chandigarh is a paragon for all the cities of the country, such a clean and so less polluted city is unique.

2. श्रवण कुमार उन सभी बच्चों के लिए आदर्श हैं जो अपने माता - पिता की सेवा करना चाहते हैं।

Shravan Kumar is a paragon for all the kids who want to serve their parents.

6. Sumptuous (adj.) – सम्चुअस - शानदार, आलीशान

1. उसका एक आलीशान फार्म हाऊस है।

He has a sumptuous farm house.

2. ये एक बेहतरीन ब्रैकफस्ट है।

This is a sumptuous breakfast.

7. Tackle (v.) – टैकल - निपटना/ सुलझाना

1. मैं नहीं जानता कि इस समस्या से कैसे निपटा जाए।

I have no idea how to tackle this problem.

2. हमें सीखना चाहिए कि किसी कठिन परिस्थिति से कैसे निपटा जाए।

We should learn how to tackle a difficult situation.

8. Zoo (n.) – ज़ू – चिड़ियाघर

1. इस चिड़ियाघर में देखने लायक कुछ नहीं है।

This zoo has nothing worth watching.

2. उस दूर वाले चिड़ियाघर के बारे में मैंने बहुत सुना है पर कभी जाने का मौका नहीं मिला। क्या आप ले जा सकते हो वहाँ, देखूँ तो सही ऐसा क्या खास है उसमें?

I have heard a lot about that distant zoo but never got an opportunity to visit. Could you please take me there, I want to see what’s so special about that?

9. Yell (v.) – यैल - चीखना / चिल्लाना

1. तुम मुझ पर क्यों चिल्ला रहे हो?

Why are you yelling at me?

2. मैं चिल्लाता नहीं हूँ, भले ही मैं गेम हार जाऊँ।

I don’t yell even if I lose the game.

3. हर मामले पर चिल्लाना आपकी आदत है।

Yelling on every matter is your habit.

10. Capability (n.) - केपेबिलिटी – योग्यता

1. तुमने बचपन से बहुत मेहनत की है और तुम में इस परीक्षा में सफल होने की योग्यता है।

You have worked very hard since childhood, and you have the capability to succeed in this examination.

2. हमें किसी के पुराने ख़राब प्रदर्शन से उसकी योग्यता पर कभी सवाल नहीं उठाना चाहिए।

We should not raise questions over someone’s capability on the basis of their previous bad performances.
