किसी भी वाक्य में It का प्रयोग या तो “यह/ये/वह/वो” के अर्थ में होता है या फिर एक Dummy subject के रूप में। Dummy subject का मतलब है कि वाक्य में Subject के रूप में “It” का प्रयोग करना तो ज़रूरी है पर “It” का कोई अर्थ नहीं है।

Dummy subject के रूप में पाँच कॉन्सेप्ट्स में “It” का प्रयोग होता है –

1) Time {समय} बताते हुए
2) Weather {मौसम} के बारे में बताते हुए
3) Day {दिन}, Date {तारीख}, Month {महीना} के बारे में बताते हुए
4) Has been {समय हो गया है} /
Had been {समय हो गया था}
5) Take {समय लगना}

It – “यह/ये/वह/वो”

यह एक पैन्सिल है।
This is a pencil. /
It is a pencil.

वह एक पैन्सिल है।
That is a pencil. /
It is a pencil.

ये राहुल है।
This is Rahul. /
It is Rahul. /
He is Rahul.

वो राहुल है।
That is Rahul. /

यह एक तोता है।
This is a parrot. / It is a parrot. /

Its – Possessive Pronoun

यह एक बिल्ली है। इसकी आँखें सफेद हैं।
This/It is a cat. Its eyes are white.

वह एक बिल्ली है। उसकी आँखें सफेद हैं।
That/It is a cat. Its eyes are white.

यह रवि है। इसके पापा वैज्ञानिक हैं।
This/It/He is Ravi. His father is a scientist.

यह एक साधारण सी कुर्सी है। इसकी खूबसूरती क्या है?
This/It is a simple chair. What is its beauty?

It का प्रयोग Dummy subject के रूप में

(1) Time (समय) बताते हुए

हमने समय (Time) देखना पहले ही सीखा हुआ है।
इतने बजकर इतने मिनट – Minute + Past + Hour
इतने बजने में इतने मिनट – Minute + To + Hour

2 बजकर 15 मिनट – Quarter past two.
2 बजकर 30 मिनट – Half past two.
2 बजने में 15 मिनट – Quarter to two.
2 बजने में 30 मिनट – Half to two.
2 बजने में 12 मिनट 28 सेकन्ड – Twelve minutes twenty-eight seconds to two.

• तो जब भी समय बताया जाता है, हमेशा It का प्रयोग Subject के रूप किया जाता है।

2 बजने में 12 मिनट हैं।
It’s 12 minutes past 2.

मेरी घड़ी में 2 बजने में 15 मिनट हैं।
It’s quarter to two by my watch.

10 बजने में 15 मिनट बचे हैं।
It’s 15 minutes left/remaining to 10.

साढ़े दस हो गये हैं।
It’s half past 10.

(2) Weather {मौसम} के बारे में बताते हुए

Rain (बारिश होना): Rain – Rained – Rained – Raining
Hail (ओले पड़ना): Hail – Hailed – Hailed – Hailing
Snow (बर्फ पड़ना): Snow – Snowed – Snowed – Snowing

वहाँ बारिश हो रही है।
It’s raining today.

वहाँ हर रोज़ बारिश होती है।
It rains there today.

वहाँ बर्फ पड़ेगी।
It will snow there.

कल बर्फ पड़ेगी।
It will snow tomorrow.

वहाँ बारिश हो रही है।
It’s raining there.

कल देहरादून में ओले पड़ेंगे।
It’ll hail in Dehradun tomorrow.

जनवरी में मसूरी में बर्फ पड़ती है।
It snows in Mussoorie in January.

पिछ्ले साल बहुत बारिश हुई थी।
It rained a lot last year.

(3) Day {दिन}, Date {तारीख}, Month {महीना} के बारे में बताते हुए

आज शनिवार है।
Today is saturday. /
It’s saturday today. (Better Choice.)

कल 5 तारीख थी।
It was 5^th yesterday.

ये जनवरी चल रहा है।
It is January. /
This is January.

अगले महीने उसका बर्थडे है।
It’s his birthday next month.

(4) Has been {समय हो गया है} / Had been {समय हो गया था}

Point No. 1:

२ घंटे हो गये हैं। – It has been two hours.
15 मिनट हो गये हैं। – It has been fifteen minutes.
५ साल हो गये हैं। – It has been five years.
कई दिन हो गये हैं। – It has been many days.
बस २ मिनट हो गये हैं। – It has been just two minutes.

Point No. 2:

मिलते हुए – Meeting
मिले हुए – Having met

खेलते हुए – Playing
खेले हुए – Having played 

सोते हुए – Sleeping
सोये हुए – Having slept

रोते हुए – Weeping
रोते हुए – Having wept

नाचते हुए – Dancing
नाचते हुए – Having danced

मुझे तुमसे मिले हुए 3 साल हो गए हैं।
It has been 3 years to me having met you.

मुझे तुमसे मिलते हुए 3 साल हो गए हैं।
It has been 3 years to me meeting you.

मुझे तुमसे मिलते हुए 3 साल हो गए थे।
It had been 3 years to me meeting you.

यहाँ आये हुए काफी समय हो गया है।
It has been a long time having come here.

तुम्हारा इन्तज़ार करते हुए मुझे 1 घंटा हो चुका है।
It has been 1 hour to me waiting for you.

तुम्हारा इन्तज़ार करते हुए मुझे 1 घंटा हो चुका था।
It had been 1 hour to me waiting for you.

(5) समय लगना – It (Subject) & Take (Verb )

मुझे ये काम खत्म करने में दो घंटे लगते हैं।
It takes me two hours to finish this work./
It takes two hours to me to finish this work./
I take two hours to finish this work.

उसे ये काम खत्म करने में दो घंटे लगते हैं।
It takes him two hours to finish this work./
It takes two hours to him to finish this work./
He takes two hours to finish this work.

तीन दिन लगेंगे।
It will take three days.

मुझे तीन दिन लगेंगे।
It will take me three days. /
It will take three days to me./
I will take three days.

आप बहुत समय ले रहे हैं।
You are taking a long time./
It is taking a long time to you.

मुझे ये काम खत्म करने में दो महीने लगे।
I took two months to finish this work./
It took me two months to finish this work./
It took two months to me to finish this work.

हमें फैसला करने में कई दिन लगेंगे।
It will take us many days to decide./
